Our Brewery's History, Founded in 1913
In the Meiji era, many Japanese crossed the ocean to America in search of dreams. Some succeeded, others returned home without realizing theirs, and many people here in the Tessei area also went to America.
Our founder, Jūgorō Miyata, was one of them.
In 1902, Jūgorō made up his mind, leaving behind his wife and their eldest daughter, born in their first year of marriage, and emigrated alone.
After emigrating, Jūgorō ran a strawberry farm with his companions, growing what were known as Dutch strawberries, overcame countless hardships, and built substantial wealth. In 1912, he returned from the area near San Francisco, where he had settled.
Using that wealth, he resolved to start a sake brewing business, obtained a production license on February 28, 1913, and began producing three kinds of beverages here, sake, shochu, and mirin.
Thus, our brewery was born from an American Dream—an unusual origin for a sake brewery.
